The Adult Transition Program (ATP), part of Coastal Buttes Academy, serves individuals ages 18–22 who benefit from a supportive, structured environment as they prepare for adult life. The program is intended for those continuing their educational journey beyond high school with ongoing support services, rather than a traditional postsecondary path, and enrollment is based on demonstrated need for this level of support. Centered on independence and real-world skills, the ATP focuses on areas such as cooking, cleaning, budgeting, money management, social communication, community safety, self-advocacy, job readiness, and accessing community resources. Participants follow a regular school schedule, remain eligible for summer programming until age 22, and engage in hands-on learning through activities like operating a student coffee shop, gardening, fitness classes, art projects, and community outings. Many participants also gain paid work experience with support from the WorkAbility I Program and partner agencies such as the California Department of Rehabilitation and Colusa One Stop. Overall, the ATP provides structured, meaningful experiences that help individuals build independence and prepare for life beyond the program.
